Mikdad discusses means to enhance coordination, cooperation with Vietnamese, Cypriot counterparts

Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad has continued his meetings on the sidelines of the activities of the UN General Assembly in New York as he met Bui Thanh Son, Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The two ministers discussed prospects of developing economic and political relations between the two sides, particularly as this year coincides with the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The two sides underlined the necessity of enhancing coordination between them and continuing the mutual support at the international forums.

The Vietnamese Minister extended congratulations over the success of the presidential election in Syria, expressing his country’s desire to participate in the reconstruction and investment in Syria.

Minister Mikdad, for his part, thanked Vietnam for its support to Syria during its membership at the Security Council, adding that Syria welcomes Vietnam’s participation in the reconstruction of what has been destroyed by terrorism in Syria.

Mikdad also met Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides as the two ministers affirmed their rejection of any attempts to breach the sovereignty of the two countries and their territorial integrity.

They highlighted the historic and geographical ties binding the two friendly peoples in Syria and Cyprus.

The meeting also tackled the means to enhance the diplomatic communication and dialogue between the two countries in a way that would serve their common interests.

Minister Mikdad referred to Turkey’s continued occupation of parts of the Syrian territories and its support for terrorist groups, while reviewing the disastrous effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

The two meetings were attended by Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh, Director of the Private Office Department, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq and Ehab Hamed from the Office of the Foreign and Expatriates Minister.
