Egypt has built modern research centers for water, renewable energy, and food security to deal with the main challenges to green economy, in line with Egypt Vision 2030, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said Saturday 02/10/2021.

Abdel Ghaffar made the remarks during a ministerial round-table held as part of the 18th annual meeting of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum Japan is hosting via conferencing on October 2-5.

Egypt relies on “Green innovation” to reduce environmental pollution and gain a competitive advantage that helps institutions achieve environmental sustainability, the minister said.

Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the need to embrace green innovation to prevent resource loss with its adverse impact on the environment, given the novel global challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.

He also gave an outline of a report prepared by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on “green growth” and its effectiveness in dealing with various economic as well as environmental challenges.

The minister also touched upon Egypt’s endeavors on that score, such as establishing the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority to offer effective solutions to various global issues, support economic growth, and address economic challenges.

Founded in 2004, the STS forum aims to bring together scientists and global leaders in the fields of politics, business and academia who meet yearly in Kyoto, Japan, a city that is both a 1,200-year-old ancient capital and a center of cutting-edge science and technology.
