A meeting was held at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Beirut in the presence of caretaker Minister of Education and Higher Learning, Marwan Hamadeh, the UAE Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamad Saeed Al-Shamsi, and the Ambassador of Lebanon to the UAE, Fouad Shehab Dandan, with a delegation of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International, with talks touching on educational cooperation prospects.

The delegation presented the initiative of the educational e-learning platform launched last October by His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Ambassador Al-Shamsi praised the initiatives and underlined their importance, “especially since they have already contributed to the project to support education and literacy through the use of the e-learning academy for learning Arabic at the Emirates-Qadriyah School. This initiative benefits about 1,000 students aged between 13 and 64 years. The Arab Organization for Translation was supported through rehabilitation and provision with the necessary equipment and means to complete its mission and transfer knowledge and human thought accurately and faithfully and develop the Arabic language.”

The diplomat stressed “the importance of providing appropriate educational curricula and support for educational institutions so that all children can access schools, which shall contribute to reducing illiteracy and reducing the rates of dropout and this, in turn, shall contribute to fighting against extremism and terrorism.

“Lebanon is a country that needs full support and cooperation as it hosts large numbers of displaced Syrians,” he said.

“Societies cannot develop and grow without a conscious and educated generation that helps in the process of growth and development,” he assured, underlining the effort made to promote the Arabic language and thus preserve “our identity, traditions and values as language represents our characteristic and our image to the world.”

Minister Hamada, in turn, underscored “the deep-rooted historic ties between the two brotherly countries,” stressing the need to strengthen “the existing cooperation in all fields, especially that the UAE is a pioneer in this field and has already been cooperating in previous projects all aimed at promoting the educational sector and helping the Lebanese and the Syrian brothers based on the principle of non-discrimination. This approach has helped this country occupy the highest positions and top the global maps.”
