Under the auspices and in presence of Head of the Education and Culture House committee, MP Bahiya Hariri, and with the participation of Italian Ambassador to Lebanon, Massimo Marotti, Sidon’s public intermediate school celebrated its naming after eminent instructor Angelique Saliba and the rehabilitation of the school’s premises.

This project is implemented by AVSI Foundation, and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), with the support of the Italian Embassy in Lebanon.

The event was held at the school’s amphitheater, in presence of MP Michel Moussa, AICS Director Donatella Procesi, Program Director Corrado Di Dio, and President of AVSI in the Middle East Marco Perrini.

In his word, Ambassador Marotti, indicated that Italy had been supporting Lebanon for over 20 years, through development cooperation projects in all fields, including infrastructure, economic development, job opportunities’ creation, environment preservation, and healthcare and education assistance.

“Italy acknowledges the efforts exerted by the Lebanese government to host Syrian citizens and other displaced students in public schools. For more than six years, Lebanon has hosted the weak categories from neighboring countries and provided public services to them,” he said.

“Italy and the international community hail the efforts undertaken by the Lebanese government and they will continue to support Lebanon,” he added.

Marotti added that work was underway to rehabilitate a number of public schools.

“Schools’ rehabilitation is key to provide a positive and safe environment where children can grow and enjoy high-quality learning,” he underlined.
