NCVC Plants 13 Million Mangrove Seedlings on Kingdom’s Coasts, Boosting the Vegetation Cover

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification continues carrying out its coastal project, planting 13 million mangrove seedlings.

The center has completed several projects entailing the planting of millions of seedlings, and is currently implementing projects in various regions: Jazan with 5.5 million seedlings, Makkah with 2.4 million seedlings, Madinah with 2 million seedlings, Tabuk with 1.5 million seedlings, Asir with 1 million seedlings, and the Eastern Region with 500,000 seedlings. This initiative aims to achieve the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative, contributing to planting millions of mangrove trees.

The center, in cooperation with its partners, aims to plant 100 million mangrove trees along the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf coasts in the coming years. Currently, it is working to increase the green cover and reduce desertification in the coastal areas by planting one million mangrove trees in several locations.

More than a year ago, the center launched th
e project entailing planting 700,000 mangrove seedlings, including 200,000 on Ras Abu Ali Island, in Jubail Governorate, and 500,000 in Al-Wajh Governorate. The project includes fencing and caring for the seedlings, to protect them from algae and seaweed, and protecting the sites from grazing and encroachment.
