On July 22, Hatay’s Deputy Governor Orhan Akturk visited the site of a new economic project that spans 50,000 square metres in the district of Afrin, located in the Aleppo governorate. Though Ankara’s interest in developing the economic landscape of Afrin is not new, its efforts escalated in early 2018, when Turkey occupied the area following its military Olive Branch Operation.
