On Pink October Occasion … Activities for early breast cancer detection in Homs

Non-Governmental Civil Organizations (NGOs) and charitable societies in Homs will participate in several awareness activities, in addition to providing free health services during the pink month of October for early detection of breast cancer.

The activities that the NGOs will carry out throughout the month, in addition to the mobile clinics in the countryside of the province, include raising awareness on the need for early detection of cancer and free clinical examination for women, Eng. Samar El Sebaei, Director of Social Affairs and Labor Department said.

A number of charitable societies with their voluntary cadres will also participate in the activities, as al-Bir Society will provide free mammograms at the mammography center within its hospital in al-Wa’er neighborhood and the clinical examination within Dr. Anis al-Masri clinic in al-Hamidiya neighborhood.

The Islamic Charitable Society will provide a free mammography service within the clinic of Dr. Raif al-Akhras, in addition to a campaign to raise awareness on breast cancer and show the beneficiaries the places where the examination is conducted.

Free X-ray and medical tests will be also provided by Bab al-Siba’a Charitable Society within its hospital in Bab Siba’a neighborhood.

Sandouq al-Afya Charitable society will cover the costs of breast surgeries by 50% in addition to a free x-ray, while, the Orthodox Association of the Poor in Old Homs City will provide free x-ray during the month of October for all the ladies and girls who want the early detection of the breast cancer.

Awareness sessions will be organized by Lamsat Shifaa Charitable Society at the Society’s health center in al-Dar al-Kabira area.

Karam al-Shami Society will organize awareness sessions and distribute brochures on the early detection of breast cancer, while the Family Planning Society will carry out awareness sessions in addition to conducting clinical examinations for women most at risk of contracting the disease in women’s clinics in the neighborhoods of al-Waer, Baba Amr, Khalidyia, al-Muhajireen, al-Dablan, and the towns and areas of Shin, Taldou and Tall Dahab.
