Beirut: Opposition forces in Lebanon have announced January 9 as a pivotal date for electing a new president, aiming to resolve the country’s prolonged political stalemate.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, leaders of the Lebanese opposition gathered in Maarab and emphasized the significance of electing a president who is committed to upholding the constitution and implementing the ceasefire agreement. They highlighted the urgent need for reforms, especially in the economic sector, to lay the groundwork for a “state of law.”
The opposition bloc expressed its commitment to intensifying dialogue with all political factions to build a consensus around a presidential candidate who can secure widespread support. They insisted that the parliamentary session on January 9 should continue without interruption, conducting successive voting rounds until a new president is elected.
Furthermore, opposition leaders underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire, addressing violations decisively, asse
rting state control over arms, and ensuring the full deployment of the Lebanese army across the country.
