President Ahmad al-Sharaa Addresses Critical Developments on Syrian Coast

Damascus: The President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Ahmad al-Sharaa, delivered a significant speech on Sunday, addressing the recent developments on the Syrian coast amid ongoing efforts to maintain national unity and stability. During his address, President al-Sharaa highlighted the turbulent journey Syria has endured over recent years, emphasizing the country’s fight for freedom and the challenges posed by attempts to destabilize it.

According to Syrian Arab News Agency, President al-Sharaa expressed concern over the renewed threats from remnants of the deposed regime and their external supporters. He warned of attempts to incite civil war and divide the nation, stating, “Today, as we stand at this critical moment, we find ourselves facing a new danger, represented by the attempts of the remnants of the deposed regime and their external backers to create new strife and drag our country into a civil war, aiming to divide and destroy its unity and stability.”

The President underscored the persistent threats facing Syria, attributing them to opportunistic forces aiming to sow chaos. He cited recent incidents in coastal areas as evidence of these ongoing challenges and reiterated his administration’s commitment to quelling such disturbances. “We fully understand that the dangers we face today are not mere passing threats, but are a direct result of opportunistic attempts by forces seeking to perpetuate chaos and destroy what remains of our beloved homeland,” he said.

President al-Sharaa also acknowledged the deep wounds left by the previous regime, including notorious incidents at places like the Palestine Security Branch and Sednaya. These wounds, he noted, contributed to recent unrest despite the state’s preventive efforts. “All of this left wounds that are difficult to heal, and the events of yesterday are a result of these wounds, despite the state’s efforts from the first moment to prevent their occurrence,” he stated.

In response to the violence against security forces in the region, President al-Sharaa asserted the need for calm and resilience among the Syrian population. He condemned the attackers and vowed to hold all perpetrators accountable. “We assure the Syrian people and all those who care about our country that we will not tolerate the remnants of Assad who committed crimes against our army forces and state institutions,” he affirmed.

The President announced the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate the coastal events and bring those responsible to justice. Additionally, a higher committee will be established to maintain civil peace and engage directly with residents to ensure security and stability. “We will also announce the formation of a higher committee to maintain civil peace, which will be tasked by the Presidency of the Republic with direct communication with the residents of the Syrian coast,” he added.

In his closing remarks, President al-Sharaa called for international support and respect for Syria’s sovereignty, asserting the nation’s determination to resist any foreign or domestic attempts at destabilization. “Syria will remain steadfast, and we will not allow any foreign forces or local parties to drag it into chaos or civil war,” he concluded.
