President al-Assad awards General Aslan Syrian Order of Merit of excellent degree

Damascus President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday awarded Major General Ali Aslan, former Army Chief of Staff, the Syrian Order of Merit, of the excellent degree, in appreciation of his role as a military commander and his heroisms as a brave combatant and officer at the battlefields in addition to his 7 decades-long career.

General Aslan is one of the most prominent commanders of the Syrian Arab Army. He was born in 1932 and occupied a number of military posts, including the commander of Syrian forces working in Lebanon and the army’s Chief of Staff in Syria, then as an advisor at the Republic presidency in 2003 until today.

He joined the military Academy in 1952 and was one of the most prominent commanders in Tishreen Liberation War of 1973.

While he was Deputy Chief of Staff, the armed forces confronted the Muslim Brotherhood groups in Syria and the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.

Aslan wrote a number of military important books and set several military theories which have achieved benefits during wars.
