TEHRAN, Iran, Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Saturday, urged the Syrian government and opposition groups, to start the planned peace talks in Astana, Kazakhstan, as early as possible.

In their third phone conversation in one month, the two leaders exchanged views, on continuing regional cooperation, resolving the Syrian crisis and fighting international terrorism, according to report.

They underlined the importance of cooperation between the two countries, to help resume political talks and settlement of the Syrian crisis, through political means.

President Rouhani also extended condolences to President Putin, over the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Andrei G. Karlov, in Ankara, last week.
