FIFA has decided to suspend Spanish football chief Rubiales as a punishment for improper behavior toward Spanish Women’s World Cup player Jenni Hermoso during the recent ceremony for crowning the Spanish women soccer team as world’s champion.

According to the official television, Rubiales will be suspended as of today and for at least 90 days, covering all activities related to the game at the national and international levels.

Rubiales made the indecent move toward Hermoso, 33, after the Spanish women team beat Britain 1-0 in the final match of the women cup, held in Australia and New Zealand, last Sunday, drawing widespread wrath in and outside Spain.

His suspension came after 81 Spanish women players including 23 who were in the team that won the cup declared that they would boycott the national team as long as Rubiales remains in the post.

Their firm stance was in retaliation for his his declaration that he would not given in and quit the post over the incident.

FIFA declared on Thursday start of punitive measures against Rubiales noting that his unaccepted behavior breached the federation disciplinary codes.
