Russian and Syrian inter-Agency committees: repatriation of refugees is a national priority for Syria

“Russian and Syrian inter-agency coordination committees on repatriation of refugees to the Syrian Arab Republic” affirmed on Thursday that the return of refugees to their home is a national priority for the leadership in Syria.

The two committees, in a final statement following an expanded joint meeting via video on the outcomes of work during this year, said “As a result of the relentless efforts exerted by the Syrian leadership in the areas liberated from terrorists, work is underway to return normal life, as the pace of work rises to rebuild the infrastructure and implement projects related to the restoration of roads, power lines, new residential buildings, schools and hospitals,”

The statement added that 2.338.141 Syrian citizens have returned to their home since 2018, reaffirming support provided by Russia to Syria to carry out urgent humanitarian tasks within the framework of singed agreements.

The statement stressed that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria by the US and EU, in addition to the illegitimate presence of foreign military forces in Syria had negative impacts on the social, economic and humanitarian situation in the country.

It referred to the bad situation in areas occupied by the US in eastern Syria and al-Hawl camp where 84 killing operations have been monitored.
