Moscow- Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday affirmed that the US unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria and the so-called “Caesar Act” are illegitimate, and they hinder the international efforts for resolving the crisis in the country.

“We consider these measures totally illegal and illegitimate … We will continue to help the Syrian people,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik Agency.

Bogdanov added “Our tasks remain the same… combating terrorism on the Syrian territory…Multifaceted cooperation will continue between our two countries, including the military field, and no one can prevent us from doing so.”

Earlier on the day, Russian First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Jabbarov asserted that Russia will continue to support Syria despite the so-called “Caesar Act”.

Jabbarov expressed conviction that the US sanctions are “futile and useless” and will achieve nothing.
