People’s Assembly Speaker, Hammoudah Sabbagh, called for removing unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, indicating the repercussions and negative impacts of these measures on the lives of Syrian citizens.
Sabbagh received on Thursday Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Syria, Iyad Nasr.
The Speaker referred to the role played by the Fund in Syria and the importance of strengthening cooperation in all fields, especially in the humanitarian, educational, children rights, and supporting and empowering women, adding that the People’s Assembly approved many legislations and laws supporting women’s rights and their role in building society.
For his part, Mr. Nasr said that cooperation with the Syrian side has helped consolidate the work of the United Nations’ Population Fund in Syria within the efforts exerted to provide assistance to the Syrians and ease their suffering, particularly women and children.
