Speaker of the Shura Council to Lead Saudi Delegation at 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva


Speaker of the Shura Council Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh will lead the Kingdom’s delegation at the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva. The event will bring together hundreds of parliamentarians and representatives from various international organizations.

In press remarks, Dr. Al-Sheikh emphasized that the Shura Council’s participation reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to contributing to international forums. He praised the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their vision in strengthening the Kingdom’s regional and international influence.

He further highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, noting the Shura Council’s pivotal role in addressing regional and global issues through various parliamentary activities and forums.

This year’s assembly will focus on ‘Harnessing Scienc
e, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for a More Peaceful and Sustainable Future,’ with discussions led by the Union’s four permanent committees.

Additionally, Secretary General of the Shura Council Mohammed bin Dakhil Al-Mutairi will attend the meeting of National Parliaments’ Secretaries, while other Council members will participate in the Standing Committees on UN Affairs, International Peace and Security, Democracy and Human Rights, and Sustainable Development.

Dr. Al-Sheikh will also attend the 37th emergency conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union, where key Arab parliamentary figures, including Shura Council member Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Muhanna, will be present.
