Makkah, The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) said it had successfully followed its emergency plan for the holy month of Ramadan, with ground and air ambulance teams professionally and strategically placed in Makkah, especially in and around the Grand Mosque.

According to SRCA, the implementation of the plan entailed using the services of over 1,000 paramedics, emergency medical specialists, and doctors, in addition to 18 medical control physicians, and 5,400 volunteers of both genders who clocked 65,000 hours of service, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

There were more than 47,000 ambulance trips, and the medical centers in Makkah handled 33,561 cases. Jeddah came second, having received 10,193 cases, and Taif third with 3,882 cases.

SRCA said that the air ambulance operated 32 and a half hours of flights to medical care centers, during which it transported 14 serious cases.

The authority’s operations were supported by a fleet of over 80 ambulances equipped with the latest medical devices, 150 electric scooters, motorcycles and bicycles, and 24 golf carts, as well as by 49 defibrillators and 15 cardiopulmonary resuscitation devices.

Hard at work were teams specialized in rapid response, event and crisis management, communicating audio and video with the command, control and medical relay center.
