Sustainable Development Minister meets with UN officials

The Minister of Sustainable Development, Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif, met with several UN officials on the sidelines of her participation at the UN 2023 Water Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, ‘Water for Sustainable Development’ (2018-2028), currently held at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The Minister met with the Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Li Junhua. She reiterated the kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and highlighted the kingdom’s efforts in monitoring the indicators to evaluate and review progress towards achieving the SDGs.

The minister also met with the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2023 session, Lachezara Stoeva. The two sides discussed the kingdom’s progress and preparations for the submission of its second Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the global SDGs, due to be presented in July 2023, during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

The minister also met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr. Rola Dashti, and highlighted the kingdom’s efforts towards the implementation of the SDGs, especially SDG 6 “Clean Water and Sanitation.” The minister discussed various policies and programmes being implemented by the kingdom to ensure the sustainable management of safe water resources for all.

Ambassador Jamal Al Rowaiei, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN, was also in attendance.
