Syria calls for removing economic coercive measures imposed on country

Syria called for an immediate, unconditional removal of unilateral, coercive economic measures imposed by the US and European Union that cause suffering of the Syrian people.

Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Bassam Sabbagh, said in a statement at UN Security council session on Monday that report of the Secretary General about the humanitarian situation in Syria has ignored the catastrophic impacts of the illegitimate unilateral measures imposed by the US and EU on the country.

“Any objective evaluation of complications relevant to the humanitarian situation in Syria leads to one outcome that the main reason behind this situation is the Turkish occupation, its crimes and support to terrorist organizations,” Sabbagh said.

He added that Syria has exerted all possible efforts and offered the needed facilitations to the UN and its agencies to apply the authority related to resolution / 2585/.

Sabbagh affirmed that the achievement of stability in the country requires full elimination of terrorist organizations and ending the US and Turkish occupation.
