Syria Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Self-Determination and Criticizes UN Inaction.

New York: Syria reaffirmed its firm stance in support of the Palestinian people and their rights to self-determination, return to their homeland, and the establishment of their independent state on all of their occupied territories, with Jerusalem as its capital. The country expressed deep dissatisfaction with the inability of the United Nations to stop Israeli aggression on the Arab region.

According to Syrian Arab News Agency, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Bassam Sabbagh highlighted the significance of commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People this year. He noted that it coincides with the ongoing unprecedented Israeli aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. In a message to the Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Ambassador Cheikh Niang, Sabbagh emphasized the dire circumstances faced by the Palestinians.

Sabbagh pointed out that international organizations operating in the Gaza Strip have document
ed the occupation army’s systematic destruction of hospitals, schools, universities, places of worship, residential buildings, refugee camps, and basic infrastructure. This policy aims to render Gaza uninhabitable and force the displacement of its Palestinian residents.

Syria expressed profound dissatisfaction with the United Nations and its agencies’ inability to halt the aggression against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank or hold the perpetrators accountable. Sabbagh attributed this failure to the stance of certain Western countries, primarily the United States, which supports the Israeli actions.

Sabbagh reiterated Syria’s strong condemnation of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, as well as the brotherly nation of Lebanon, and the repeated attacks on Syrian territories.
