Syria, UNHCR discuss means to speed up response to requirements of returning displaced

Prospects of cooperation to expand the scope of projects that contribute to securing the appropriate environment for the return of the displaced to their areas, increasing support for them, and activating joint coordination with the Higher Committee for Relief were the main points of discussion during a meeting between Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi

Makhlouf stressed that the ministry is looking forward to more projects that would serve those who return to their areas and would achieve stability for them in cooperation with international organizations.

He called on the international organizations to be supportive to what the Syrian has been providing to the displaced to alleviate their suffering due to terrorism, the unjust economic siege and the theft of Syrian resources by the US and Turkish occupation forces.

In a press statement, Grandi indicated that the two sides agreed during the meeting to speed up the response provided by the UNHCR and other international organizations in coordination with the Higher Relief Committee, which will benefit the returning displaced and society as a whole, and facilitate the return of refugees to their country.
