SYRIAN ARMY ADVANCES IN FIGHT AGAINST DAESH IN SWEIDA COUNTRYSIDE
DAMASCUS, Syria, The Syrian army has advanced in the battles against the Daesh, Saturday, in the desert region of the southern countryside of Sweida.
The armed forces captured large swathes of the al-Safa hills, which are the last Daesh strongholds in the eastern countryside of Sweida. The remaining Daesh-held area in the al-Safa hills has become exposed to the fire of the Syrian army.
Meanwhile, a military source said that, the operations in al-Safa hills area are ongoing and that the Syrian army is advancing from three directions.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said, the army has controlled all water resources of the Daesh in that area, adding that, the hills of al-Safa are witnessing mass escapes of Daesh militants.
As many as 425 Daesh militants have been killed, since the army started its operations in the countryside of Sweida on July 25, the source added.
Another source in Sweida also said that, military operations in the al-Safa hills are coming to an end, as the army is now combing the area in search of the Daesh.
The army started operations against the Daesh, in the desert region, east of Sweida, after the militants attacked villages in Sweida and kidnapped around 30 civilians and killed over 260 others.
The operations have dragged on for over three months and were moving on cautiously, out of fear for the lives of the hostages.
However, the army secured the release of the hostages, who were still alive, last week, and proceeded in the battles to eliminate the Daesh from Sweida completely.
When the army declares the full defeat of the Daesh, the entire province of Sweida will be free of them.
Sweida, a predominantly Druze area, has remained largely calm, during the more than seven-year-long war in Syria, except for the countryside, as the Daesh have control of the areas in the desert region.
