Syrian-Iraqi talks to enhance trade exchange, facilitate goods transport

Syria and Iraq have discussed the mechanisms for activating cooperation and trade exchange between the two countries, especially with regard to agricultural production requirements, fertilizers, and ways to facilitate the transport of goods.

That came during a meeting held Wednesday between Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohammad Hassan Qatana, and an Iraqi economic delegation.

During the meeting with the delegation, which included a number of Iraqi businessmen who participated in the Syrian-Iraqi Business Forum recently held in Damascus, Minister Qatana stressed the need to activate the work of the Syrian-Iraqi Joint Committee and to convene it periodically in order to remove all obstacles that hinder the trade exchange between the two countries.

Minister Qatana highlighted the importance of the Iraqi market for Syria, as it is geographically close, and the Syrian product is very desirable for the Iraqi people, reviewing the available investment opportunities offered by the ministry and the facilitations offered by the new investment law.

In turn, members of the Iraqi delegation noted that the Syrian products enjoy a good reputation in the Iraqi markets, underlining the necessity to continue these meetings between the two sides to overcome all obstacles which hinder the transport of goods and to find solutions to them.
