Secretary-General of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Khaled Erksousi, called on Security Council to assume its responsibilities and work to lift the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, stressing that the measures have largely affected various sectors, particularly water and electricity, and targeted Syrians in their livelihood in light of the outbreak of the Corona epidemic.

In a speech to Security Council via vedio on Wednesday, Erksousi demanded the Council to put an end to the economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people in order to alleviate their suffering, briefing the council on the difficulties facing the work of the Red Crescent and the effects of unfair coercive measures on the work of humanitarian organizations.

Erksoussi added that the organization has not t been able to run the humanitarian convoys across the borders yet, despite having approvals in light of Resolution No. 2585 issued by the Security Council which stipulates that all possible means must be taken to reach people in need.
