On November 30, 2023, Japanese Ambassador to Lebanon, MAGOSHI Masayuki, attended the ceremony to hand over a solar power system at the Yeghishe Manoukian College (YMC) located in Dbayeh, Metn, Mount Lebanon, which was supported through Japan’sGrant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Program (GGP).

YMC, established in 1985 in Dbayeh, has faced operational challenges due to the financial and fuel crisis in Lebanon, forcing it to reduce the number of students and to curtailteaching hours and extracurricular activities, which has negatively impacted the educational performance at YMC. To address these issues, Japan supported the installation of a solar power system to provide affordable and green energy. This support will help increase the number of students and restore extracurricular class hours, providing a more conducive learning environment for the students at YMC.

During the ceremony, Ambassador MAGOSHI highlighted Japan’s recent support for solar power projects across Lebanonin various sectors and
emphasized the importance of this initiative. He also reiterated Japan’s unwavering commitment to supporting Lebanon’s education sector to help Lebanonovercome the ongoing socio-economic challenges. In return, Mr. Hovig Arslanian, Member of the Board of YMC,expressed his gratitude to Japan’s generous support andhighlighted the profound impact of this initiative, which creates a carbon-free and pollution-free learning environment for students. He also praised the collaboration efforts with Japan, mentioning that the provided solar power system is a symbol of resilience, sustainability, and a shared commitment to providing quality education in adverse conditions.
