(UPDATED) Le Pen pushes Syrian regime to take back Syrian refugees to Syria
Far-right French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen held on Tuesday a press conference where she reviewed in it her visit to Lebanon and her meetings with Lebanese top officials.
She said that discussions with the Lebanese officials touched on the fragile economic situation in Lebanon as result of the presence of half a million Syrian refugees.
“The Syria regime must take measures to take back the Syrian refugees and help them to stay in safe areas as Syria is not entirely in war,” Le Pen stressed.
“It was essential to meet with the officials in Lebanon and to see their views regarding the situation in Lebanon. I gave them my analysis concerning the situation in the region,” Le Pen added.
Le Pen said that discussions highlighted during her meetings with the Lebanese officials as well on ties between Lebanon and France.
“My goal is to boost ties with Lebanon. France is capable of helping Lebanon to strengthen its army. There is no stable state without the army, a national army capable of protecting the country and the government,” Le Pen asserted.
Responding to a question regarding what happened today at Dar el Fatwa, Le Pen said “The Grand Mufti Abdel-Latif Derian Tuesday declined to meet with me as I refused to wear a veil during our meeting.”
“When I met with Grand Imam of al-Azhar (Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb), I didn’t wear a hijab and I will not wear it now,” Le Pen told the reporters.
