US URGES RUSSIA TO “USE ITS INFLUENCE” FOR AN ACTUAL CEASEFIRE IN SYRIA
WASHINGTON, March 12 — The US urged Russia “to use its influence with the Assad regime,” to honor a cease fire agreement and provide full access to humanitarian aid for the Syrian people.
Despite today’s announcement by the High Negotiations Committee that it will participate in next week’s negotiations in Geneva, the US remains concerned and condemns “the Assad regime’s ongoing practice of removing badly needed medical supplies from the emergency humanitarian aid deliveries that are actually made, State Department spokesperson John Kirby told reporters Friday.
He strongly “condemn reports today that the regime has conducted air strikes, which struck civilian protesters in Aleppo and Daraa,” reiterating that “these are clear violations of the cessation of hostilities and of the express commitment by the Assad regime to the United States and Russia.
“We urge all parties, particularly Russia, to use its influence with the Assad regime to make this happen,” he concluded.
